Sustainable Fashion and Sneaker Design

For designers and change-makers

Course description

We will explore the global impact of the current fashion industry while also learning about how future designers can create and build sustainable fashion brands for clothing, shoes, or accessories. Currently, the fashion industry is responsible for 10 percent of the world’s carbon emissions. By 2050, more than 25 percent of the entire global carbon budget will go to this one industry. Designers and brands across the globe are tackling this problem by reimagining existing clothing pieces, reinventing supply chains, and exploring new sustainable materials.

Framed by the UN Sustainability Goals, this course will explore young designers' work and the sustainable fashion movement to guide our student designers to find their place in the future of the fashion industry. We will explore key garment-making skills like sewing, embellishment, hand-painting, and more. For their final project, our young designers will create and present their own eco-friendly design piece using upcycled materials.
